St. Ambrose

$25.00

St. Ambrose (340–397 AD) was a bishop of Milan, theologian, and one of the four original Doctors of the Church. He is best known for his eloquent sermons, his defense of orthodoxy, and his role in the conversion of St. Augustine of Hippo. Ambrose was a staunch defender of the independence of the Church from imperial authority, famously challenging Emperor Theodosius I over the massacre at Thessalonica, leading to the emperor's public penance. He also contributed to the development of liturgical music and was a proponent of monasticism.

Ambrose is the patron saint of beekeepers, beggars, and the city of Milan. His feast day is December 7.

All of my portraits of saints original drawings were created with black Prismacolor pencils. This media choice was to insure a maximum contrast of black and white rather than the grey of graphite. The benefit is that all of my saint prints are the exact same size and contrast as the original drawing.
