St. Charles Lwanga

$25.00

St. Charles Lwanga (1860-1886 AD) was martyred in 1886 alongside 22 other courageous souls standing their ground against grave injustice and tyranny in Uganda. He was 26 years old at the time. This portrait was based on the only known photograph of St. Charles Lwanga, a group portrait (containing 20 of the soon to be martyred companions) taken at the Bukumbi MIssion in modern day Tanzania where they had traveled to welcome the newly appointed Bishop to Uganda. He is the patron saint of youth, converts, and people who have been tortured.

All of my portraits of saints original drawings were created with black Prismacolor pencils. This media choice was to insure a maximum contrast of black and white rather than the grey of graphite. The benefit is that all of my saint prints are the exact same size and contrast as the original drawing.
