St. James the Greater

$25.00

St. James the Greater (?-44 AD) one of the first called to discipleship by Jesus, along with his brother John. James and John, the sons of Zebedee, as the familiar scripture reads, were pulling in empty nets all day while fishing but were told by Jesus, calling from shore, to dip them in one more time only to have the nets come up so full that they nearly sank the boat. That just might have gotten their attention:-) James was also one of the three called to witness the Transfiguration. Later, James would spend decades preaching the gospel on the Iberian peninsula (Spain and Portugal) but his martyrdom, traditionally the first of the apostles, would occur back in Jerusalem by the order of King Herod.
James is the patron saint of pilgrims and of Spain. His remains are in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, the destination of the ancient pilgrimage, El Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James.

All of my portraits of saints original drawings were created with black Prismacolor pencils. This media choice was to insure a maximum contrast of black and white rather than the grey of graphite. The benefit is that all of my saint prints are the exact same size and contrast as the original drawing.
