St. Martin of Tours

$25.00

St Martin of Tours, (316-397) was a fourth century Roman soldier with a heart for Christ, for the poor, and for peace. Conscripted into the army at the age of 15, Martin left at the age of 23 to become a monk and eventually a bishop, telling his commanding officer, “I have served you as a soldier, now let me serve Christ.” My drawing captures Martin in the moment of removing his helmet for the last time. St. Martin of Tours is the patron saint of the poor, of soldiers, and of conscientious objectors. His feast day is November 11.

All of my portraits of saints original drawings were created with black Prismacolor pencils. This media choice was to insure a maximum contrast of black and white rather than the grey of graphite. The benefit is that all of my saint prints are the exact same size and contrast as the original drawing.
